Global Institutions Meet at UIN Jakarta to Discuss the Future of Tolerance and Technology

TRIBUNNEWS.COM, JAKARTA — A public lecture entitled “Beyond Tolerance: Faith and Prosperity in the Digital Era” presents a unique meeting place between faith, technology, and social entrepreneurship.

Organized by MAXY Academy together with the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta and the Transformational Business Network (TBN) Indonesia, this event was attended by more than 100 participants from among lecturers, students, and university leaders.

The Chancellor of UIN Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar , emphasized the campus' commitment to being a space for open dialogue for diverse knowledge.

“The integration of faith, technology, and entrepreneurship is an important foundation for societal progress,” he said.

Global Voice, Local Perspective

Four cross-country speakers were present to enrich the discussion:

  • Dr. Kim Tan (Founder of TBN Movement, UK) emphasizes the concept of prosperity with purpose — prosperity rooted in moral and spiritual values, not just economic numbers.

  • Dr. Chris Stewart (Templeton Religion Trust, USA) reminded that technology should strengthen social ethics and solidarity, not replace human values.

  • Dr. Ali Qadir (Tampere University, Finland) invited participants to understand the inner universe, the human inner world that is often neglected amidst the rapid digital flow.

  • Prof. Amelia Fauzia (UIN Jakarta) closed with an emphasis on digital-based interfaith philanthropy, which can foster tolerance and social justice.

In addition to the public lecture, the speakers engaged in dialogue with university leaders to explore research and development collaborations at the Innovation Impact Hub — a joint initiative of UIN Jakarta, MAXY Academy , and TBN Indonesia.

This hub is intended as a center for social innovation based on spirituality, entrepreneurship, and cross-sector collaboration.

MAXY Academy CEO Isaac Munandar emphasized the goal of this activity: “We want students to be not only technologically competent, but also have integrity in their social roles.”

Meanwhile, Asep hopes that this collaboration will continue into real cooperation.

"UIN Jakarta is ready to be part of the effort to build a peaceful, tolerant, and just future," he said.
