An Economic Revolution - The Social Entrepreneur
Social Entrepreneurs are driven by a mission to create social impact alongside profit. They blend business acumen with a deep sense of purpose to solve pressing social and environmental challenges - a lethal combination. Standing at the intersection of innovation and compassion, their business model creates new markets and jobs, addresses unmet gaps, stimulates local economies, and empowers underserved communities. The social enterprise is a new business model that moves from distributive to generative, challenging the old guard.
Yet, for too long, social enterprises have been misunderstood as “not quite business” and “not quite charity”. Our traditional linear minds can’t fit the social enterprise into any of our current boxes, so we resist it. However, with the next gen motivated to make a difference over only making a profit, this trend is not only here to stay, it is poised to grow. There is a new and better formula for success that resonates much stronger with our values, and there is no going back.
The social entrepreneur is not just a business, it is not just a charity - it is a purpose-driven venture that's driving a movement for a better world. We need to transform so that we can belong in this future. This year at the TBN Asia Conference in Malaysia, we’re gathering the region’s most impactful voices to champion a new economy.
Last Year’s Conference Highlights
-
Purpose Driven Social Impact
“Purpose driven social impact is different… we need to rewrite the brief, reset our start points, and refresh the script. So what’s the big deal? Why do we need to rewrite the brief?”
- Eugene Seow, Board Advisor, NVPC -
Redemptive Philanthropy
Charitable giving has been called a zero-sum game. Newer options like trust-based philanthropy evolved to the “win-win” mentality. Redemptive philanthropy, is the “I serve, we win” mentality – moving away from the scarcity mentality to one of abundance. Redemption is the act of restoration. Through the transformative act of philanthropy, both the giver and the receiver are restored to wholeness, or what is oftentimes referred to as human flourishing.
-
Redeeming the World of Finance
“So, is the finance industry really redeemable? Is work itself redeemable? The answer must be yes, because we cannot go on the way we have. But what can we do?”
– Samuel Rhee, Co-Founder, Chairman & Group CIO, Endowus
